Omniprésente et si naturelle à l'ère du smartphone, l'histoire de la photographie reste un procédé relativement récent à l'échelle de l'humanité.
Bien qu'on rapporte les balbutiements de la technique au début du 19ème siècle, on s'accorde à attribuer son invention à Louis Daguerre en 1839. Associé à Niepce, il améliore le temps de pose en chambre noire et modifie les composants chimiques nécessaires au développement de l'image. Le daguerréotype est révélé au public le 7 janvier 1839 lors d'une réunion de l'Académie des sciences. Le succès mondial ne se fait pas attendre... Les studios photos fleurissent partout et les familles les plus riches et influentes de l'époque se font tirer le portrait en noir et blanc.
Progressivement, le processus prend de moins en moins temps et le matériel de moins en moins de place. Les trépieds disparaissent peu à peu. En 1889, Eastman Kodak lance un appareil photo portatif avec une pellicule et la photo s'inscrit dans une nouvelle dimension.
Les artistes se saisissent notamment de cette opportunité et la photographie d'art progresse à grande vitesse.
Le 20ème siècle est ainsi marqué par le travail de grands photographes. Parmi eux, figurent Walker Evans, Diane Airbus, Vivian Maier, Annie Leibovitz, Henri Cartier Bresson, Robert Mapplethorpe ou encore Robert Doisneau. Avec eux, c'est notre vision du monde qui semble bouleversée. Ils marquent la fin d'un monde et en ouvrent un nouveau, dont ils fixent les contours et les couleurs chacun à leur manière. Ils nous permettent d'entrevoir les réalités sociales, les drames vécus par la population mais ils immortalisent également la magie d'Hollywood et les grands personnages de leur époque.
Leurs héritiers suivent leurs pas et s'inspirent de leurs techniques de cadrage et de prise de vue tout en explorant les possibilités de créations encore décuplées par les prouesses du numérique. Certains conservent certes un amour indéfectible pour les Leica argentique mais nombreux sont ceux qui les troquent contre la netteté des Reflex et qui jouent ensuite sur la photographie post-production pour mieux en changer les traits et la signification.
La collection d'Artsper est représentative de la création photographique internationale des années 1950 à nos jours. Qu'il s'agisse de portraits, de paysages romantiques, d'images urbaines, de vie domestique, ou de compte-rendu d'événements, la photographie permet d'avoir une représentation unique de soi ou de ce qui nous entoure. Vous trouverez entre autres des artistes incontournables comme Liu Bolin, Li Wei ou Helmut Newton. Mais aussi des jeunes talents qui ont déjà attiré l'attention des experts, tels que comme Maud Chalard, Théo Gosselin et Julie Lagier, ainsi que de nombreuses galeries exclusivement spécialisées dans ce médium.
