Charcoal Drawing for Sale

A study, a sketch, a portrait, a nude drawing, the memory of a landscape... Quickly, it must be sketched. And what better tool for a drawing than charcoal?

The so-called natural charcoal, is in fact a charcoal, that is to say a branch of shrub partially burned. It is usually willow, plane tree, birch or spruce. Each plant species will give a different look to the design. Thanks to its thick and easy to blend texture, charcoal allows the artist to play with a wide range of monochrome shades. This tool also allows a great freedom of movement.

However, the handling of charcoal must be delicate to prevent it from breaking, so the technique of the draftsman or illustrator must be excellent. Finally, the lines obtained with charcoal are more pronounced, rougher, wilder than those made with sharpened tools such as pencil, pen or marker.

Let yourself be seduced by the charcoal drawings on Artsper, between the delicate nudes of Eliane Bonabel, the hyperrealistic drawings of François Bard or the powerful sketches of Ernest Pignon Ernest, among many others...

How is charcoal used in drawing?

Charcoal is used in versatile ways by artists. Using charcoal, the artist has the ability to create fine lines using the corner of the stick, or it can create larger patches of tone when used on its side.

Why draw in charcoal?

Charcoal is often used by artists for drawing instead of a pencil because it allows for more artistic freedom and variation. Artists can create both fine, sharp lines and larger areas of tone using the same medium.
