American artist Georgia O'Keeffe is recognized as the mother of American Modernism. Her dynamic career and artistic œuvre has established her as one of the most influential female artists of the 20th century, with the posthumous sale of her 1934 Jimson Weed/White Flower No.1 tripling the previous world auction record for any female artist. 

She is best known for her paintings of magnified flowers, New York skyscrapers and New Mexico landscapes. Marked by femininity, graceful color gradients and a kind of delicacy, her artwork has been acclaimed by many for its delicate depiction of the female perspective. 

She created what was at the time a unique, distinct style - one that toed the line between Surrealism and Precisionism. She was an innovative artist who challenged the artistic norms of her time, including architectural elements into her floral paintings. Rather than recreating representational images of her subjects, she experimented with portraying how they made her feel.
