JR & Associée agency and galerie Jean-Marie Oger are very pleased to present a solo show of Francine Van Hove at JR Galerie that has newly opened in Arles.
As early as the 1970s, Francine Van Hove has remained committed to a painting that is essentially figurative and feminine. At odds with art trends and avant-garde theories, she never kept doing studio painting, with a virtuosity close to the one of Old Masters, by the use of live models, only young women staged in intimate compositions.
Based on a corpus of preparatory studies and paintings from the last two decades, the Florilegium exhibition seeks to highlight the main topics of the artist: reflections, women sleeping, meals, open-air painting, tribute to Old Masters. It reveals a complex – calming and melancholic, delicate and impenetrable – and classical work through the modelling of bodies, the plays of light and material. The retinal pleasure specific to painting is stated with refinement and vitality in her work.
Born in 1942, Francine Van Hove lives and works in Paris. After having prepared in the 1960s the art teaching certification and briefly worked as a teacher, she decided to devote herself only to painting. Regularly showed in Europe and North America, her work is part of many private collections.
