Boris Eldagsen, a German artist born in 1970, has embarked on a fascinating journey that explores the intersections of art, photography, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Drawing inspiration from the subconscious, Eldagsen ventures into uncharted territory, using AI to generate photorealistic images that he calls "images." These creations, although employing the visual language of photography, exist outside the realm of traditional photographs.
Eldagsen's artistic vision has captivated audiences worldwide, with his works showcased in prestigious galleries such as Fridericianum Kassel, Deichtorhallen Hamburg, and the Vanabbemuseum Eindhoven. Since 2022, he has been experimenting with AI-generated images, meticulously refining the output through techniques like In- and Out-Painting. To his surprise, one of his AI-generated images titled "The Electrician" from his series "Pseudomnesia: Fake Memories" was selected as the winner in the Creative category of the SWPA. This accolade came with significant recognition and rewards. However, Eldagsen made a bold and unexpected choice: he declined the award.
