“Other thing” exhibition in duo Fabien Boitard & Hervé George IC. A painter masters his ideas, that is to say his painting, when he retains the ability to do something else – without losing the thread of his evolution. Thinking about something else, moving on, doing something else is a sign of vitality as well as a necessity for the mind. In art, it will be the sign that commercial success has not confined the artist.
There is in Fabien Boitard a gradation of treatment, from shoddy to virtuoso, from concrete action to retinal illusion, which participates in the same narration-in-gesture whose consequence we see inflicted on the material; and it is an array. There is in Hervé Ic an attempt at harmony from incoherent, fragmentary, heterogeneous and tricked resources like the world in front of you. His painting is an assembly that seems natural but is not, and forces discernment. We find in them this persistence of the singular “I”, of the decision without calculation, motivated by an intention, and the will to do something else.
