Biography
Born in 1983, Dane Shue comes from Grapevine, Texas in the United States. Dane Shue is a visual Contemporary Pop Artist currently working in Dallas, Texas. He makes vibrant paintings and mixed media artworks using printmaking techniques, screen printing, stencils and collage. The artist uses gestural painting and acrylic paint in hand-pulled silkscreen to create portraits of pop icons. He produces portraits of various pop culture figures such as Marylin Monroe, Elvis Presley, Audrey Hepburn, and Prince.
He draws inspiration from pop art icons Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, and the Pop art movement in general. His influences also include the imagery of the 1950s, as well as contemporary influences.
Dane Shue addresses popular themes such as nostalgia and celebrity culture, and overlaps various themes and approaches. Recurring subjects emerge, including the exploration of the connection between art and popular culture, the use of repetition as a creative tool, the significance of historical contexts and surpassing conventional expectations.
