Iconos americanos
Desde mediados del siglo XX, Estados Unidos se ha convertido en el líder del mercado del arte. La concesión del León de Oro al estadounidense Rauschenberg en la Bienal de Venecia de 1964 atestigua el paso del prestigio de la escuela de París a la de Nueva York. Hoy en día, además de su vasta red de museos con notables colecciones, Nueva York cuenta con la mayor concentración de artistas, lo que se traduce en un ADN extremadamente creativo de la ciudad.
Algunos de los iconos estadounidenses de la esfera artística que pueden venir a la mente son los siguientes mentores del arte moderno: Edward Hopper, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Georgia O'Keeffe, Man Ray, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring... Alguien como Norman Rockwell es conocido por su forma de contar historias. Rockwell fue capaz de presentar una representación realista de la vida cotidiana tras la fachada del sueño americano. Jean-Michel Basquiat, por ejemplo, mostró la elevación del arte urbano al rango de las bellas artes.
