Arte Marginal
La expresión “Arte marginal" fue inventada en 1972 por el crítico de arte Roger Cardinal. Es un movimiento creado por artistas autodidactas o "ingenuos", que escapan a la tradición y han tenido poco o ningún contacto con la obra de arte tradicional. A menudo, el término Arte Marginal se usa para etiquetar a los artistas con trastornos mentales, ideas no convencionales, comportamientos infantiles, y estos artistas generalmente no son descubiertos hasta después de su muerte. La etiqueta se refiere solo a la naturaleza de los artistas, las obras de arte en sí son extraordinariamente variadas en cuanto a género y apariencia. A pesar de la marginación histórica de los artistas seguidores de este movimiento, el Arte Marginal es ahora una corriente reconocida. Cada año desde 1993 se celebra en Nueva York una Outsider Art Fair que publica periódicamente revistas dedicadas a este tema.
