Armory Show

The Armory Show, also known as New York's Art Fair, is an international art fair held every year in New York City. Founded in 1994 by five art dealers, the fair was initially called the Gramercy International Art Fair and was held in the Gramercy Hotel in New York. As its reputation grew, the fair moved to a more suitable location in the National Guard armory building in Lexington avenue. As this was the location of the historical 1913 Armory Show, the first large exhibition of modern art in America, the Gramercy International Art Fair also changed its name to reflect this history. The Armory Show is now held in New York City for four days every fall. 

The Armory Show exhibits works from leading contemporary and modern art galleries around the world, and this year will welcome galleries from over 30 countries. The fair will also bring together three curators specializing in Latin American and Latinx art for the first time, in order to provide “a distinct, unified vision for the fair's initiatives."

In addition, The Armory Show has announced a special partnership this year with the United States Tennis Association (USTA), the Armory Off-Site at the US Open. This partnership is an extension of Armory Off-Site, created in 2021. For the event, artists from underrepresented backgrounds will display large-scale sculptural works at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, from August 23 to September 11, 2022. This partnership will increase the fair's expansion in NYC, displaying works by artists such as Luzene Hill, Gerald Chukwuma, Jose Dávila and Carolyn Salas.
