Relics of Future's Past
From November 16, 2022 to December 7, 2022
Multidisciplinary artist and writer Francesca Ricci was born in Florence, Italy, where she graduated in Stage Design at the Fine Arts Academy.
She lived in London for many years where she developed most of her artistic practice. She has exhibited internationally in numerous group and solo exhibitions including in London, New York, Spain, Scotland and Italy. She has also participated in many collaborative projects, from fringe theatre to independent publications. Since 2019 she lives and works in Valencia, Spain.
Ricci's practise is often project-based and related to other fields of expression and disciplines, such as the written word – literature and poetry – photography, the cinematic image and music.
She is interested in exploring the reciprocal contamination of word and image, and the territory where they meet, with attention to the narrative of the image and the visual potential of the word.
Traces and signs hold a fascination for Ricci, as bearers of meanings as well as for their evocations on a personal level and moreover as entities in themselves.
For her making work is an almost alchemical operation, the result of mixing many ingredients. Each series of work has therefore a genesis and a concept of its own, which is never totally pre-constructed, but develops organically as the work progresses.
