The first thing that strikes the viewer about "Gentleman's Update" is the use of color. The artist has also used a range of textures to create depth and dimensionality in the painting, from the soft texture of the man's suit to the rough, textured surface of the newspaper he is holding.
The composition of "Gentleman's Update" is also noteworthy. The man is placed in the center of the frame, his gaze directed downward toward the newspaper in his hands. This creates a sense of intimacy and immediacy as if the viewer is sharing in the man's moment of reading.
What is most intriguing about "Gentleman's Update," however, is the sense of nostalgia it evokes. The painting is a snapshot of a bygone era when newspapers were the primary source of information and entertainment for many people. The man's relaxed posture and engrossed expression suggest a sense of contentment and satisfaction that is increasingly rare in our fast-paced, digital world.
At the same time, "Gentleman's Update" raises questions about the role of media in shaping our perceptions of the world. The man in the painting is clearly absorbed in the news, but we do not know what he is reading or how he is interpreting the information presented. This ambiguity invites the viewer to consider their own relationship with the media and the ways in which it influences their understanding of the world.
In conclusion, "Gentleman's Update" is a fascinating artwork that offers a window into the past while also raising timeless questions about human nature and the role of media in shaping our perceptions of the world. The painting's use of color, texture, and composition creates a sense of intimacy and immediacy that draws the viewer in, while its nostalgic tone invites reflection on the ways in which our world has changed and evolved over time.

Presentation
Fredrick Idele Osarodion is a painter and art instructor who lives and works in Benin, Nigeria. He is a mixed-media artist who sees his immediate environment as a large canvas that offers limitless opportunities to explore.

Artist Statement :
I am usually challenged by empty canvases. And, I respond to this challenge by spontaneously experimenting with diverse materials to produce distorted figurative expressions.
Lines, symbols, and shapes are critical elements in my style as they give me the liberty to express myself with less restriction, upon the body of my figurative expressions are symbolic characters that share the narratives of each work.
My art speaks of hope, confidence, and courage through diverse situations. I am inspired by the perception of myself as well as the day-to-day happenings around me. As the subject of my artistry, I relate my personal experiences with that of others and use my art as a voice to communicate these stories and experiences that cannot be spoken of verbally.
