Influenced by Impressionism as well as American photographer Saul Leiter, Pedro Correa hunts for highly photogenic snapshots of reality, hoping to grab the feeling of an instant and to transform seemingly ordinary street scenes into visual poetry.
Tearing apart the blurry veil that every city wraps around itself, the artist captures elements that often get unnoticed, by giving them a different perspective. According to Correa, Beauty is to be found everywhere, in the mix of various cultures, in people bumping into each other, colours, energy, and things happening on every corner…
'It’s my perception of the city that I want to show, the feeling rather than an actual picture. I don’t want to create an alternate reality, but collect what is already out there and worth preserving in a time capsule.'
Correa aims at capturing ephemeral moments of non-manufactured beauty in order to create overall a portrait of a universal, timeless and imaginary city where every scene would be worth contemplating, and where the soul of the city merges with the soul of its inhabitants. He offers to the viewer atmospheric, inspired fragments of his city, a place with a beating heart connected to his own.
