Bruno Schmeltz was born in Toulouse in 1938. He lives and works in the Pyrenees, which explains why apart from painting, he practices skiing and mountaineering and that, from time to time, he drops his brushes to go see his bees. Training in “fresco” decoration and monumental trompe-l'oeil painting. He copies in the Louvre and Prado Museums in Madrid. He makes many wall decorations. A master glassmaker, he notably produces the stained-glass windows of Capvern-les-Bains, Lannemezan, and the cathedral of Dakar. In 1972, he abandoned his decorative activities to devote himself to oil painting. Meeting with Pierre Cardin who is organizing a large exhibition in his Space. Since 1974, he has participated in the main contemporary art fairs in Paris, and in numerous group exhibitions in France and abroad. Bruno Schmeltz still paints in his hyper-realistic style, but with surreal content. Its dreamlike landscapes are obviously linked to the beauty of the Hautes-Pyrénées, land of the last shepherds and silence. He paints in oils, generally on large canvases which remain his favorite field. Among the people who have contributed to its popularity, we can cite Pierre Cardin, Jean Gismondi or Claude Nougaro.
