Tapas I is an exhibition honoring 5 of our artists that are represented by PontArte since the opening in December 2013 in Alella, Spain. A selection of new work, from abstract to realism from small to large and from oil paintings to screen-print,
The exhibition can be visited from the 1st of December until the 6th of January 2019 at PontArte Kapoenstraat 29 Maastricht
The opening takes place December 1st 16.00 hrs.
Why Tapas?
In Spain, the country these 5 artists live and work, tapas are small bites which were offered on a small plate to cover your drink (Tapar is Spanish for cover) Nowadays Tapas form part of the Spanish life, you eat them having a drink with your friends in a bar.
In this exhibition we would like to offer you something similar: offer you different “flavors” of art by presenting works from five different artists, so you can a taste a lot of art. We show a variety of styles and techniques, small and large.
What to expect at Tapas I?
New works on paper from Josep Maria Codina (Mataró-Spain). Beautifully framed and waiting to be seen. It is different from his previous works but also familiar with the thin pencil lines and subtle colors.
Besides several new works on paper and larger canvases the series of screen-prints “Toros” will be presented. Marc Prat (Arenys de Munt – Spain) worked on this series in the summer period June July 2018 at the Grafisch Atelier in Maastricht.
From Fiona Weedon (UK, but mostly working in Barcelona and the Pyrenees) We present a few almost abstract landscapes on paper, clearly inspired on the Spanish Pyrenees.
Ana Garcia and Alberto Romero (Mataró-Spain) both have made a number of works specially for this exhibition. We will show these smaller works together with some eye catchers as Neus and Bodegón con calabaza from Alberto.
The artists Marc Prat, Josep María Codina, Fiona Weedon, Ana Garcia and Alberto Romero are represented by PontArte since December 2013 when the gallery kicked off in Alella, Spain. There work has been exhibited on a regular basis in solo shows and in pop up exhibitions and art fairs.
Some of the works have become part of renowned art collections and are included in private collections.
In our new gallery space at the Kapoenstraat in the city center of Maastricht the works of these 5 artists are well presented. It is a beautiful space where you can look at the works in a calm environment and where you can ask questions about the artists and their work.
The gallery is open from Thursday till Saturday from 11-17 hrs. You can also contact us to see the works on appointment.
About PontArte
In December 2013 PontArte was founded by Marieke Severens and started in Alella, Spain, close to Barcelona with 7 artists living and working in Barcelona.
In 2015 PontArte continued as gallery in Maastricht, where the link with Barcelona and the artists remains but to which 2 Dutch artists have been added in the past period. PontArte now represents 14 artists. The portfolio is still under development, because good art and artists must be made visible.
PontArte is a gallery with art from the 21st century that works with international artists with whom there is a close bond. PontArte wants to show that there is room for contemporary art in our present time and that that is more than a nice picture on the wall.
We show work by artists in the gallery, organize exhibitions around an artist or a theme and can be followed via the online platforms Artsy.net, 1stdibs.com and Artsper.com
