Presentation

A poet and visual artist, Miss.Tic was born on 20 February 1956 in Montmartre. Her famous stencils have graced the walls of Paris for several decades. She died on 22 May 2022 in Paris, and her work, once considered minor and illegal, is now recognised in major institutions such as the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Fonds Municipal d'Art Contemporain in Paris. A retrospective in Singapore, supported by the French Embassy, has also highlighted her work. Miss.Tic embodies the eternal feminine, playing with looks and thoughts.

In the 80s, at the heart of the urban art boom, Miss.Tic made the Butte aux Cailles (13th arrondissement) her playground. In 1986, she unveiled her talent for the first time at Agnès b's Galerie du Jour, also in the 13th arrondissement. Her artistic mark was forged during her studies in graphic design and her first steps in theatre set design, when she joined the street theatre company 'Zéro de conduite'.

The 1990s were tumultuous years, with the rise of taggers, and Miss.Tic was confronted with police repression, particularly after her arrest in 1997 for a work in the Marais district. Despite these challenges, her work gained recognition and was accepted by the most prestigious art institutions. She also worked with major brands such as Longchamp, Kenzo and Louis Vuitton.

Sometimes light-hearted and sometimes provocative, Miss.Tic asks serious questions and her work is eminently political. She blows a wind of revolt, inciting reflection and the imagination. Language is at the heart of her practice, serving as a tool for struggle and for reading the world.
