“The pen is the interpreter of the soul: what one thinks, the other expresses. »Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote. At the beginning of the idea, a residency in South Korea for several weeks. The artist traveled through this country, crossing local artists and ancestral references from a different people. During this stay, he produced a number of travel diaries not to discover or transmit information, but to experience the emotions promised by a desired elsewhere. Based on his introspective research and multicultural permeation, he formulated a proposal at the Ilmin Museum in Seoul: Everyday is your Birthday. From there, we were able to follow the progress of his research until the development, for the Center de Création Contemporaine Olivier Debré (CCC OD) in Tours, of the exhibition: La Géographie du Totem (from December 14, 2019 to May 3, 2020). At the end of this journey, Fabien Verschaere offers us today the exhibition: The Quest, as an illustration of Jacques Brel's song. Virtuoso of the transposition of his interior scenography, Fabien Verschaere offers us an artistic journey tinged with his obsessions, his fears, his sufferings, his joys, his feelings; of his life, in short. This life, which shines through the artist's canvases, shows us, like a hinterland travel diary, the representation of his introspective theater. We of course find there his very particular universe, but also the new influences and feelings linked to the moment, which must be lived. Fabien Verschaere has this incredible life force, this desire to move forward, to communicate through his images the depth of his interest but also of his dismay in the face of the human other. He confronts the public with this living fresco where his intertwined characters reflect his inner history and the overflowing life that inhabits him.
