It is in the manner of a " photography’s craftsman", using his own tools adapted to his eye, to his hand, that Abel Bourgeois explores intensely and tirelessly the so particular landscape of the Sierra de Guara in Aragon. The artist draws from this unknown, constantly renewed, constantly transformed from month to month, from year to year, the powerful photographic material that he will finally deliver to us lying on paper.
Attracted like an insect by light, our fascinated gaze progresses through images of this familiar nature made of water, plants, minerals and gases, without knowing what to trust. Layer after layer, plane after plane, little by little the mystery settles and thickens. Paradoxically, from this thickness comes a whole universe, like an icy mirage formed in a fragile tension where the clarity of light, the richness of materials and colours, the finesse of details, are balanced and finally subtly frozen in a spontaneous composition.
As an expert guide, Abel Bourgeois makes us cross the border between reality and mystery through his images carved in this supernatural environment. The photographer thus reveals that from a world that our eyes and emotions believe they know, can be born if we lend it adventure, a new imagination with unsuspected borders.
