"Medios tonos", is the first solo-show from the Spanish artist Alberto Romero (1978) in Maastricht. The exhibition opens on Saturday January 20th at 16.00 hrs hours in presence of the artist. The location is Oranjeplein 203 and the exhibition will end at March 12th 2018. The work of Alberto Romero consists mainly of paintings and drawings, but also other techniques are used such as video and photography.
He is a contemporary artist, inspired and trained by Antonio López García. One of the leading Spanish Realism painters. Besides Antonio López he admires other artists, that, with their way of working have a special place in Art History. From Velazquez and Vermeer through Mondriaan and Giacommetti we see a way of looking at the world and topics of every day life reflected in Artwork. Alberto also looks at his topics in this way and he translates this into works of contemporary art for the 21st century.
The work of Alberto Romero is contemporary and asks the viewer to concentrate. His subtle way of working sometimes results in a rejection of the current art scene They see the work as traditional stilllives, but on the other hand, the lovers of realism other struggle as well as the works are not aiming to be a perfect “photo” of the topic painted, but see an abstraction, that they find difficult to address.
