Contemporary African art has been in the spotlight recently, attracting crowds at the Dak'Art Biennale in Senegal or at the AKAA contemporary art and design exhibition, at the Carreau du Temple in Paris. For a long time neglected by the worldly artistic world or reduced to "primitive arts", African art has undergone an incredible renewal in recent years and has since then seduced collectors and amateurs all over the world. This renewal is due in part to the affirmation of postcolonial discourses which have allowed African artists to really express themselves in a new way, gradually claiming a space in which to express their creativity in its diversity, far from the clichés that have long been imposed on them. Discover a wide selection of contemporary African art in our African art editions on Artsper!
