From June 14 to October 12, 2024, Saint-Raphaël invites you on an initiatory journey to the limits of the imagination with the “MythologieS” exhibition. From the summit of Mount Olympus to the dark alleys of Gotham City, “MythologieS” explores these epic stories that have captured the collective imagination since the dawn of time. Made up of around a hundred paintings, sculptures, drawings and other grandiose installations, this exhibition can be discovered in three symbolic places in the City. Bonaparte Garden Raphaël exhibition room at the Cultural Center Archaeological Museum “MythologieS” is a continuation of the monumental exhibition “ExodeS”, presented in Saint-Raphaël during the summer of 2022. After having met with great success with the one of the largest contemporary art exhibitions in Europe, the City is once again calling on Simone Dibo-Cohen, president of the Mediterranean Union for Modern Art (UMAM), for the organization of this multidisciplinary exhibition. A city steeped in history and culture, Saint-Raphaël will be transformed for four months into a crossroads of reflection and artistic production. More than 40 artists from all walks of life have taken up this central theme in the history of modern art. Their works, with iconographic inspirations and various materials, will be spread across three emblematic places in the City: monumental sculptures will adorn the Jardin Bonaparte, photographs, enigmatic canvases and drawings will adorn the walls of the Raphaël exhibition room, vestiges of the past and contemporary creations will intertwine in the heart of the Archaeological Museum. Sailing between fantasy and reality Freedom of expression, eclecticism and singularity: these are the key words of this ambitious exhibition, accessible to neophytes as well as the most experienced art lovers. In line with the reflections of Roland Barthes in his work “Mythologies”, this large-scale event is an invitation to reflect on the narratives that surround us on all sides, to scrape off the paint to reveal its sometimes obscure depths. Surprising, disconcerting and exciting, “MythologieS” takes us on a journey, according to our desires and astonishments, on a journey that transcends all temporal, spatial, cultural and artistic boundaries. A mirror of our aspirations, our fears and our dreams, this exhibition reminds us of the essential role of mythologies in the construction of our identities, our values and our societies. An ode to curiosity and reflection, inviting each of us to delve into the twists and turns of our own imagination.
