Biography
Joan Llaverias (born in 1965 in Lliçà d'Amunt, near Barcelona) is a contemporary Catalan painter, renowned for his abstract works primarily executed in acrylic on canvas. Trained at the Escola d'Arts i Oficis de Barcelona, he began his career in a figurative style influenced by Mediterranean surrealism, before evolving toward a personal form of lyrical abstraction defined by gestural expressiveness and structured color compositions.
With over 200 solo and group exhibitions, Joan Llaverias is a key figure in the Spanish and French contemporary art scenes. His work is featured in numerous international art fairs and is part of several public collections, museums, and renowned galleries across Spain, France, and the United States.
For more than two decades, Llaverias has developed a visual language centered around the emergence and transformation of pure color, exploring its emotional impact through layered compositions. Using primary tones and textured surfaces, he creates immersive paintings that combine depth, structure, and spontaneity. Notable series like Urban Nexus, Timanfaya, and Pop Art Mosaic illustrate his ability to merge geometric form with organic flow.
