Collector’s Guide
Born in 1983 in Le Havre, France Lives and works between Maison Lafitte and Normandy, France
A visual artist with a degree from Beaux-Arts in Le Havre (France), Adelaïde Leferme creates a unique universe that intrigues as much as it questions. Combining paint, natural pigments and even gold leaf, his work revisits the classic, both in its myths and in its forms, thus adding a touch of mysticism to reality and the contemporary. Testifying to a meticulous analysis of the living and its environment, as well as a great mastery of the painted gesture, his work, more than revisiting the classic, rehabilitates it in the field of the contemporary for which it becomes tools of sublimation. The rider playing polo then appears as the modern allegory of honor and courage, in the manner of chivalric painting, just as the landscape becomes a symbol of Arcadia or the woman, a contemporary adaptation of the classic nymph. Through these constant exchanges between classic and contemporary, Adelaïde Leferme broadens the field of possibilities, both of the imagination and of reality, making her works true odes to the present -- a time worthy of being dreamed of and whose protagonists are rise to the rank of heroes. Not unlike the verses of Baudelaire, his paintings appear as a multitude of invitations to travel, whose richness of colors and materials used open a window onto an imagination where everything would be order and beauty, calm luxury and voluptuousness. . His works have been the subject of various personal and group exhibitions, notably at the Galerie Hélène Nougaro (Paris, France) or the Galerie Atelier 36 (Houilles, France). His work has also been exhibited as part of various cultural events such as Le Salon des Indépendants (Paris, France), Le Salon d'Automne (Paris, France) and the Biennale Couleur et Forme (Mesnil-le-Roi, France). ).
Continuing her artistic approach, Adelaïde Leferme develops research work around the material. With Mirrors (2023), she explores the qualities of Like Mirror, a reflective and flexible fiber, allowing the optical effect of a mirror to be recreated identically. Diverting the traditional pictorial support -- through compositions whose appearance lies on the border between painting and stained glass -- this series summons a multitude of languages, mixing abstraction and figuration, empty and full or even drawn lines and painting gesture. Pushing the limits between reality and imagination, each work then establishes a form of permeability between the composition and the external world, which becomes, in turn, a full-fledged actor in the representation. Through this play of material and perception, Adelaïde Leferme creates living works, whose nature of constitution makes them both theaters and mirrors of the contemporary world.
The particularity of the Like Mirror lies in its ability to adapt to different shapes and scales. Thus, in the continuity of her research, Adélaïde Leferme was invited to create, within Tower A of the Cœur Défense, a monumental installation testifying to the multiple facets of this material. In resonance with the interior architecture of the place, the artist designed a fifteen meter high mirror, decorated with a delicate pictorial composition, reminiscent of the plant fibers which inhabit the walls of the building.
