The artist, born in Saint-Etienne in 1960, learned painting as an autodidact from the age of 26. Initially a high level judoka, he finds in art a creative, emotional impetus. It was a stint in an art gallery in Brittany that gave him back this desire to work with passion and to go through with things. He obtained a silver and gold medal for his works at the Salon des Artistes in Saint-Étienne in 1991 and 1992. This allowed Christian Vey to extend his exhibitions to the capital and to several European countries, to Montreal. , in several cities of the United States and in Africa. This Jazz enthusiast uses the same rhythm, the same emotion and the same leitmotifs in painting that he loves so much in music. He explains his style in these words: “Color has started to replace musical notes and like in jazz, improvisation has been added”. For him, there is nothing to understand, it is art, music. The works of Christian Vey, oil painting on canvas, worked with a knife, are characterized by movement, speed, spontaneity. Born in the north of France, he first worked in black and white, before moving to Uzès. So warm colors take an important place in his works, symbolizing energy. His compositions are conceived as brilliant fireworks. The artist, who travels today in Europe and the United States, thus represents life: musicians in action on stage, urban views, and women… Sensual, hair in the wind, facing the viewer, female portraits by Christian VEY symbolize the beauty of art and subjects. But it is also the creativity and freedom of the artist that we find in the lines. Their looks are intense, their faces, their lips, their hair are underlined by colored backgrounds. These women are the main subject of the exhibition on Christian Vey, which will take place from December 12, 2017 to January 13, 2018. They show Jazz transcribed in a pictorial form, in which every feature of life is punctuated by the symbiosis between characters, movement, color.
