Full of mystery and magic, Singleton was looking at paintings that dealt with dreams like The Nightmare by Henri Fuseli, when researching this painting. There is a feeling of a figure or spirit in the top left window who is luminous enough to make the blinds look transparent. It’s as if she is watching over her little sprite like extensions as they explore the reclining woman. With a witty riff on Kiss Me I'm Irish T-shirts, Singleton plays with issues of identity and gender in a humorous way. Perhaps the woman was searching for a date on Tinder and couldn't find one? Perhaps she made a date and didn't realise it was with a fairy queen? In any case, it is an intriguingly beautiful unconscious encounter.
Singleton starts a painting by working abstractly, painting in colour and marks. She builds up layers and develops a setting and figures and finally a narrative. The amount of time taken to complete a piece varies considerably depending on the artwork. Singleton uses iridescent and florescent pigments that shimmer and glow differently with changing light. There is a nice texture to the physical pieces that is difficult to see photographed. The paper on this piece has been extended. This piece would look fantastic floated in a frame.

She holds an MFA in painting from the New York Studio School.
Singleton's painting practice is rooted in an interest in cultural histories and mythologies. She creates symbolic worlds with new or borrowed characters, objects and environments to find meaning in or make sense of current personal and societal predicaments we face. New narratives play out from old stories and can speak to our current dilemmas or celebrate the beauty of freedom, nature and love. Some of the themes in her work range from mythology, nature and specifically the ocean, human/animal hybrids, creatures and entities to queer or displaced peoples, artists and those on the fringes of society. The work often starts from a deeply personal place and then elevates into a global story. Singleton discovers most of her imagery within the process of making so as to retain an essence of creation and a raw emotion that can get lost with an overabundance of control. She regards the vibrant colour in her work as a clear influence of queer culture, whereas, the lyrical quality and movement within the paintings she attributes to an obsessive love of music; a constant influence while working. The finished pieces can contain an otherworldly feeling, unbridled emotion, dark humor, a biting or underlying commentary or an idea of what is precious.
