A Greek name for a life in France, with Catalan, Spanish and Italian humors in the family tree.
An encounter in adolescence with abstract painting which displays a beautiful arrogance in the galleries visited haphazardly,
the reading of Gérard de Nerval, the feverish listening of Pascal Comelade, the dazzled vision of “Barry Lyndon" “by Stanley Kubrick".
Finally, an almost unreasonable love for Dubuffet's monumental provocations. Influenced by both the latter and Chaissac, Haring, Basquiat and Street Art, he decided to identify his work as “Brut Street Art".
These little encounters which could only be small cultural pleasures, of those which bring rewards in an altogether ordinary life.
But that clicks with him. Guillaume Nicolaou, despite the handicap of a happy childhood, will therefore be an artist.
Like the others, that is to say different. Self-taught, he flees the shackles of drawing, with naive obstinacy, to give free rein to a recreation of the world in black and white where adulthood struggles to find its place.
As if black and white, even in contradiction with its symbolism, refused to mourn childhood. The acrylic on the canvas, thrown like a last burst of laughter from this childhood that he knows, despite everything, is forever lost.
