This artwork is a profound and thought-provoking piece that juxtaposes visual elements to create an evocative narrative of mystery and existential contemplation. Central to the composition is a massive, imposing black cube that seemingly floats against a backdrop of a stormy, overcast sky. The opaque and enigmatic nature of the cube evokes a sense of foreboding and curiosity, challenging the viewer to ponder its significance and origin. Directly beneath the cube, a large keyhole stands prominently. The keyhole, a symbol often associated with discovery and unlocking hidden truths, serves as a portal or threshold, inviting onlookers to question what lies on the other side. The light blue hue of the keyhole contrasts starkly with the dark and looming presence of the cube, suggesting a glimmer of hope or revelation amidst uncertainty. At the base of the composition, a group of human-like silhouettes appears in motion, approaching the keyhole with urgency. These figures are rendered in a stark, shadow-like manner, emphasizing the anonymity and universality of the human condition. They seem to be driven by a collective desire to access the unknown, driven by an intrinsic sense of curiosity or necessity. The overall tone of the painting is one of tension and anticipation, expertly balanced through the use of contrast in color, shape, and symbolism. The artist employs a minimalist yet powerful palette, utilizing shades of grey and black to evoke a somber and introspective atmosphere, while the light blue of the keyhole offers a subtle yet powerful focal point. This artwork challenges the viewer to confront themes of mystery, the pursuit of knowledge, and the human quest for meaning. It is a profound statement on the existential journey, capturing the viewer's imagination and inviting deep reflection on the enigmatic nature of existence, humanity and immigrations life.

Works in prints from Aziz Anzabi
Presentation
Aziz Anzabi is a British artist of Iranian origin born in 1970, who lives and works in London, United Kingdom. He exhibits numerous works in the United States, the Netherlands and Iran. Anzabi mixes an almost extinct Iranian style of peeled paper on canvas with traditional oil on canvas techniques. Aziz's works are very socially engaged -- his latest series, "Life," explores people forced to immigrate because of war. Engaging with contemporary issues through a surrealist lens, the artist's paintings feature voluminous forms, intricate details and striking contrasts.
