Biography

Carol Bernier, born March 9, 1963, lives and works in Montreal, her hometown. She first studied art history at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), before turning resolutely toward the visual arts. She holds a bachelor's degree (1988) and a master's degree in visual arts (1994) from UQAM.

Her curiosity for all forms of art led her to Hungary, then to France, where she began engraving. Her encounter with Éditions RLD, with whom she has been collaborating since 2002, was decisive. In 2009, she printed 5 engravings on the presses of the RLD workshop for the artist's book Quêtes, co-signed by Yves Bonnefoy, Pierre Boulez and Jean-Jacques Nattiez.

Since 1995, Carol Bernier's works have been the subject of several solo exhibitions at the Simon Blais Gallery in Montreal. The artist has also exhibited solo in Barcelona, Paris, and Switzerland.

His works are included in numerous public and private collections, as well as in several major corporate collections.

The artist is particularly fond of the Métairie workshops for her engraving work. At the art center, she was able to experiment with Christian Mameron, the large format for the creation of an exceptional print "A Piece of Saturn", an original engraving measuring 125 x 230 cm, printed in only 15 copies for Éditions RLD in the collection "Les Géantes de la Métairie".
