Biography
Ryan McGinley is an American photographer born in 1977 in New Jersey. He is known for his casual ‘snapshot’ style and explores ideas of freedom and hedonism with shots of young people, sometimes nude, in the outdoors.
McGinley studied at the Parsons School of Design in New York, earning a BFA in graphic design in 2000 and had started photography a few years prior. He had his first show the same year in a warehouse in SoHo and by 2003 had a solo show at the Whitney Museum, one of the youngest artists to ever do so.
Having risen to prominence for his visually pleasing, youthful style, McGinley has since done projects with high profile celebrities, for luxury fashion brands and for magazines including Rolling Stone, Dazed and Confused, Vogue, Porter and GQ.
